NADA HEALTH
Executive Profile
NADA Health NPO is an independent South African non-profit organisation established in 2018 by Prof. Mandy Pearson to advance accessible, compassionate and community-centred approaches to health, wellbeing and recovery.
Based in Gauteng, South Africa, the organisation was established in response to a significant practical challenge: individuals experiencing poverty, trauma, disability, substance misuse or social exclusion may have limited access to complementary and integrative health services, particularly where such services fall outside conventional public-health provision.
NADA Health is non-government funded and seeks, within available resources, to make selected health education, supportive interventions and community programmes available at little or no cost to vulnerable and underserved populations.
At the centre of the organisation's philosophy is a simple principle:
Every person deserves to be treated with dignity, compassion and respect, irrespective of financial circumstances, social position, culture or personal history.
NADA HEALTH
Our Purpose
NADA Health seeks to reduce unnecessary barriers between vulnerable individuals and appropriate supportive care.
The organisation recognises health as a multidimensional concept influenced not only by disease, but also by nutrition, lifestyle, psychological wellbeing, trauma, socioeconomic circumstances, culture, social connection and the environment in which an individual lives.
Our approach is therefore person-centred, integrative and community based.
Rather than viewing an individual exclusively through the lens of a diagnosis or social circumstance, NADA Health seeks to recognise the whole person and, where appropriate, facilitate access to complementary support alongside conventional healthcare and appropriate professional referral.
An Integrative Approach to Health
NADA Health supports a multidisciplinary approach to health and chronic wellbeing.
Where clinically and professionally appropriate, programmes may incorporate principles from natural health, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), nutrition, lifestyle medicine, stress management, acupuncture and health education, alongside conventional medical assessment and primary healthcare.
Complementary and integrative approaches are not presented as substitutes for necessary conventional medical, psychiatric or psychological treatment. Rather, they may form part of a broader supportive framework in which appropriate disciplines work collaboratively and individuals are referred for specialised care when required.
This approach is particularly relevant in communities where physical health concerns frequently coexist with poverty, inadequate nutrition, psychological distress, trauma, substance misuse, violence, abuse and social isolation.
NADA HEALTH
Community-based Healthcare
NADA Health believes that effective community health begins by meeting people within the realities of their lives.
Community-based initiatives may involve appropriately qualified or trained practitioners working in areas such as:
Integrative Health • Nutrition • Lifestyle Education • Stress Management • Counselling • Acupuncture • Community Support
The objective is to encourage a coordinated approach in which the physical, psychological and social dimensions of wellbeing are considered together while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
